Most of my life I've managed to avoid going to really cold places for any length of time, so I've never really thought about owning a scarf.
Even when I recently travelled to some very cold places, like the British Isles in early spring, and Iceland and Yellowstone National Park in the late spring, and even Scotland and Ireland in the summer, I didn't consider a scarf because I just didn't know about them – well, I've found out!
Now I'm here in Tasmania in the middle of winter, which is also very cold.
A couple of days ago I saw a big pile of scarves at the Evandale markets in the Tasmanian Midlands going for just a few dollars each, so on a whim I picked out a big thick woolly one and bought it. Now I'm at complete convert! A scarf is so comforting and warm around your neck; and it seals off the collar of your jacket really well, keeping the cold breeze out.
If you are like me and you have no experience of wearing scarves because you come from a warm climate and you never had the need to wear one, then get one if you're going to any sort of cold climate -- they are just great for making you feel warm and cosy!
