Injidup Natural Spa

The spa pool is in a chasm in the rock, which runs parallel to the coastline.  Another chasm, which runs perpendicular to the coastline, links the spa pool to the Indian Ocean.  This chasm tapers in the direction of the pool. 

When waves hit the ocean end they are concentrated and focussed as they move along the narrowing chasm until they explosively surge over a rock ledge into the spa pool.  When the water plunges down into the spa pool it's been tossed and boiled amongst the rocks and is full of air bubbles, creating the natural spa.

Google took this picture on a calm day, so there’s not much water or foam in the spa pool, but when I was there, there was plenty of water pumping through.

Over millions of years the pounding waves of the ocean have weathered the granite rock of the headland around the natural spa into strange, complex, and interesting shapes; here’s a few examples:

The coastline around the south-west parts of Western Australia that I’ve visited during my current house-sit is all spectacularly beautiful, and the coastline around Injidup Natural Spa lives up to that experience:

This is yet another beautiful spot in Western Australia!
