We are staying at the northern end of Alexandra Headland, on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland.
The southern end of Alexandra Headland leads into Mooloolaba Beach and then on to Mooloolaba. Mooloolaba is exclusively a tourist destination, and a popular one. It has numerous restaurants, coffee shops, and tourist trinket shops, with a nicely developed esplanade area.
This is the view of Mooloolaba Beach and Mooloolaba from the southern end of Alexandra Headland:
That’s Point Cartwright in the distance.
Mooloolaba Spit
Mooloolaba beach is protected from the prevailing southerly wind and swells by the Mooloolaba Spit, a long hook of sand that extends out to Point Cartwright. It’s a usually a calm place:
Spit Beach on the Mooloolaba Spit is the calmest of all, and is popular with ocean swimmers.
Mooloolaba commercial fishing wharfs
The Mooloolah River is home to a commercial fishing fleet. I prefer to visit working fishing wharfs rather than pleasure craft wharfs – the roughed-up fishing boats have more honesty and character than the gleaming mine-is-better-than-yours show boats of a pleasure craft marina.
We had hoped to travel around Australia again soon, specifically to house sit in Canberra; but the virus is hotting up here in Australia now, so moving around is risky. In the meanwhile, this isn’t a bad part of Australia to be stuck in! (It’s certainly better than Melbourne at the moment.)
