I’ve covered a lot of material in my discussion of using and hiring a car. Here’s a summary check list to help you make sure that you have covered everything that you need to if you are using or hiring a car when you travel:
Determine that travelling in a car really is your best option.
Make sure you get your hire car for a price that is good value.
If you are going to book through a car-hire aggregator website, make sure that your agreement is
cancellable, as you may not be able to determine the terms and conditions of your hire agreement until after you have booked it.
If there’s an airport nearby, always check the cost of hiring a car from the airport, as it’s usually the cheapest place to get one.
Use a credit card or a debit card to pay for the car and the security deposit as it is much more
convenient.
Make sure that you get the insurance cover that you need.
Check the hire company’s terms and conditions to make sure you can take the car where you want to go.
Register all of the intended drivers on the car-hire agreement.
When you collect the car make sure you and the company are aware of existing damage on the car.
